The Government's Green Belt policy is set out in Planning Policy Guidance Note (PPG) 2. The fundamental aim of Green Belt policy is to prevent urban sprawl by keeping land permanently open. The key feature of Green Belt policy is therefore its presumption against inappropriate development in the Green Belt.
