HC Deb 20 March 1997 vol 292 cc803-4W
Mr. Bayley

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many patients aged 55 to 84 years were admitted to each NHS trust over the last three years to undergo transurethral prostatectomy; and what percentage of these patients were readmitted within one year for a further prostatectomy(a) as a crude rate and (b) standardised for age. [20861]

Mr. Horam

Standard information on hospital admissions by diagnosis and operative procedure is available in the "Hospital Episodes Statistics" publications, copies of which are available in the Library. Reoperation after prostate surgery is one of a set of 14 clinical indicators which we are preparing to pilot throughout the national health service as part of a commitment given in the White Paper, which marked the fifth anniversary of the citizens charter.
