HC Deb 20 March 1997 vol 292 c789W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will give a breakdown of the figure of £3,108 million for non-identified miscellaneous expenditure set out in table 7.7 of the Public Expenditure Statistical Analysis 1996–97, Cm 3201. [20819]

Mr. Waldegrave

The figures requested are given in the following table:

Miscellaneous non-identified expenditure from PESA 1996–97, Cm 3201
£ million
Economic and financial administration (including Bank of England) 3,139
Net Contributions to the European Community 1,267
Parliament and Privy Council 267
Other central services 162
Allowance for shortfall -460
Total 5,151

This total differs from that published in Public Expenditure Statistical Analyses 1996–97 Cm 3201 as the net UK contribution to the EC was erroneously split between overseas services and miscellaneous expenditure. The correct figure for overseas services was £3,593 million, not £5,636 million.
