To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what measures are taken to ensure that prison officers do not bring drugs into prisons; and if he will make a statement. [19799]

Miss Widdecombe

A range of measures are taken to stop staff from smuggling drugs into prison. These include: searching of staff, the use of sniffer dogs and setting up intelligence systems. In addition, any staff who are caught with drugs and pursued through the Prison Service code of discipline, and, if necessary, the courts.
