HL Deb 20 March 1997 vol 579 cc81-2WA
Lord Milverton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they favour increased autonomy for the Inuit populations of Canada, and if so, whether they will make representations to this effect.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

Canada's constitutional arrangements are an internal matter for the Canadian government.

Lord Milverton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, if Quebec were to secede from Canada, they would make representations to protect the position of the Inuit population of Quebec.

Baroness Chalker of Wallasey

Any secession by Quebec, and the terms for it, are hypothetical.
