HC Deb 20 March 1997 vol 292 c704W
Sir Julian Critchley

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if she will take steps to ensure that funds from the national lottery are provided to shore up Flounder's folly on Callow hill, Craven Arms, Shropshire. [21372]

Mr. Sproat

Decisions on heritage lottery applications are made independently of Government by trustees of the National Heritage Memorial Fund. The fact that Flounder's folly is privately owned would, at present, rule out lottery funding. However, new powers will be introduced later in the year which will allow the NHMF to fund any worthwhile heritage project which provides public benefit and access, irrespective of ownership. Guidance, taking into account the new powers, will be issued in the autumn.
