To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what estimate he has made of the outturn expenditure of his Department during the current financial year; how much of these costs he expended in(a) Wales and (b) England; and how many staff are employed by his Department in (i) Wales and (ii) England. The estimated outturn expenditure for 1996–97 is £6,625,588,000, of which it is estimated that £243,215,000 will be spent in Wales and £6,367,108,000 in England. The Home Office employs 1,189 people in Wales and 50,696 people in England.
