797WThe amount of income tax paid by military and civilian employees, or by my Department on their behalf within the terms of PAYE settlement agreements, was some £1.3 billion in the financial year 1995–96, the latest year for which complete information is available. The amount of VAT and other sales taxes paid by MOD employees is dependent on individual domestic transactions and is thus not available.
