HC Deb 20 March 1997 vol 292 cc814-5W
Mr. Gunnell

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) how many NHS consultants had a period of suspension during (i) 1994–95 and (ii) 1995–96; and what were the total amounts payable to them during each of those years; [21119]

(2) how many consultants are currently suspended with full pay by the NHS; and what is the total annual salary of those under suspension. [21118]

Mr. Malone

Information on the number of national health service consultants suspended is only held centrally for those cases lasting more than six months and was not collected before 31 March 1995. For the period 31 March 1995 to 31 December 1996 there were eight reported cases, all of which have been resolved. There are currently no reported cases of consultants under suspension lasting more than six months. Information on the total salary costs of consultants under suspension is not available centrally.
