HC Deb 02 June 1997 vol 295 c51W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions when his Department forecasts global average temperatures to be more than 0.5 degree centigrade above the 1951 to 1980 global average; and if he will make a statement. [1750]

Angela Eagle

Research by the Hadley Centre, supported by my Department, shows that the net effect of warming due to man-made greenhouse gases, coupled with cooling due to man-made sulphate particles, is expected to lead to global average temperatures of more than 0.5 degree centigrade above the 1951–80 average during the first decade of the next century.
