HC Deb 10 July 1997 vol 297 c554W
Mr. Robert McCartney

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if she will make it her policy to prohibit postal voting papers issued on grounds of holiday or study absence or for medical reasons being sent to an address other than that on the electoral register of the applicant. [5570]

Mr. Ingram

Under the terms of the Representation of the People Act 1985 and The Representation of the People (Northern Ireland) Regulations 1986 a voter applying for an absent vote must, in addition to the address in respect of which they are or will be registered on the register, provide an address in the UK to which the ballot paper is to be sent.

This applies throughout the United Kingdom and I have no plans at present to alter the position in Northern Ireland.
