HL Deb 04 February 1997 vol 577 c139WA
Earl Baldwin of Bewdley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many people with an HIV diagnosis have survived for 10 or more years.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Cumberlege)

Of the 4,537 adults reported in England, Wales and Northern Ireland as having HIV infection diagnosed before the beginning of 1987, 2,447 were not known to have died 10 years later. A further 116 are known to have died more than 10 years after their infection was diagnosed.

These data are likely to be an over-estimate of those still alive, due to under-reporting and reporting delays.
