To ask the Secretary of State for Health what prior ministerial approval the chief medical officer requires before(a) giving media interviews and (b) responding to parliamentary inquires and questions which relate to his responsibilities. [13404]

The chief medical officer, in his capacity as the Government's chief adviser on public health, responds as he considers appropriate to requests for media interviews and parliamentary enquiries on any matters that fall within his responsibility, in consultation with Ministers.
