To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will make a statement on his recent decision regarding the West Sussex Structure Plan; and for what reasons he rejected the proposals made by the Examination in Public. [21777]

No. It would not be appropriate for my right hon. Friend to make a statement in view of the stated intention of West Sussex County Council to seek a judicial review of his decision. The reasons for the decision are set out in the letter accompanying my right hon. Friend's direction to the County Council and I am sending the hon. Member a copy.
