HC Deb 28 October 1996 vol 284 c27W
Mr. Wareing

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list the aims of Operation Joint Endeavour; what part will be played by British military forces; and if he will make a statement. [485]

Mr. Soames

Operation Joint Endeavour is the NATO-led implementation force—IFOR—operation in Bosnia. Its primary aim is to implement the military aspects of the Dayton peace agreement. The operation has been conspicuously successful and all the key military objectives have been achieved. Britain is making a major contribution to IFOR through our leadership and status as framework nation for headquarters Allied Command Europe Rapid Reaction Corps, which commands the land operation, our command of one of the three multinational divisions and a troop contribution which is second only to that of America.
