To ask the Secretary of State for Health if it is his Department's policy that a CT scanner is a necessary piece of equipment for a district general hospital. [486]

Mr. Horam

It is not the Department's policy for every district general hospital to have a computerised tomography scanner as a necessary piece of equipment. It is for the purchasers of health care to ensure that they have access to those services necessary to meet the needs of their patients.
