HC Deb 16 October 1996 vol 282 c975W
Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what assessment he has made of the major areas of employment where there will be skill shortages over the next five years; and what assessment he has made of the impact of these shortages on manufacturing industry. [41096]

Mr. Hague

The Welsh employers surveys, commissioned regularly by the Welsh Office in partnership with others, produces information on vacancies which are hard to fill because there is a shortage of applicants with the requisite skills. The training and enterprise councils in Wales build on this and other sources of information in making their assessments of the local labour market and skills priorities. "People and Prosperity: an Agenda for Action in Wales" underlined the importance of addressing the skill needs of manufacturing industry and sets out an action plan to meet these.
