HC Deb 16 October 1996 vol 282 c979W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received in relation to his fund-raising lunch for leaders of the Welsh business community in relation to the Greenwich millennium exhibition; and if he will make a statement. [41071]

Mr. Hague

I have received several letters of thanks for the lunch, with expressions of interest in the exhibition, and one letter expressing scepticism about the value of Welsh participation. I believe that the exhibition will provide an important marketing opportunity to project Welsh achievements to the wider world.

Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he has had with the chairman of the Welsh Development Agency concerning the arrangement for lending the agency chief executive to the Greenwich Millennium Exhibition plc for 90 days; what representations he has received concerning this arrangement; what assessment he has made of the principal advantages and disadvantages of the agency; and if he will make a statement. [41069]

Mr. Hague

I have discussed the arrangement with the chairman of the WDA and I have not received any representations concerning the appointment of Mr. Hartop as chief executive designate of the Millennium Exhibition Company. With the appointment of an acting chief executive with 12 years experience in the agency, I have been assured that the WDA will continue to operate successfully.
