HL Deb 07 November 1996 vol 575 c72WA
Lord Jenkins of Putney

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What is the current situation concerning commissioning and nuclear reprocessing of THORP at Sellafield

Baroness Miller of Hendon

The commissioning of THORP is almost complete and an application to the Health and Safety Executive's Nuclear Installation Inspectorate for formal consent to operate will be made by the end of the year. I understand that THORP is on course to meet its target of reprocessing 7,000 tonnes of spent fuel in the first 10 years of its operation.
