(3) how police authorities select kennels for the purpose of housing stray dogs; and what criteria are applied to the length of time the animals are kept at public expense. [1548]

§ Mr. MacleanThe policing of stray dogs is an operational matter for the police using their powers provided under the Dogs Act 1906, as amended. Guidance was issued to the police following amendments to this Act contained in the Environmental Protection Act 1990. A copy of the joint Department of Environment, Welsh Office and Home Office circular—Home Office circular No. 5/1992—is available from the Library.
