HC Deb 05 November 1996 vol 284 c438W
Mr. Jamieson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what fee was paid to the PCL group for the contract to transfer pre-1981 criminal records to the national computer's Phoenix database; what percentage of the contract was carried out by the PCL group; and how many records were transferred. [2419]

Mr. Maclean

PCL was paid £8.8 million, excluding value added tax, under the keying contract.

The contract specified two main measures, of which one was 55 per cent. complete and the other 80 per cent. complete when it was terminated by mutual consent.

About 320,000 criminal records have been added to the Phoenix database, and work on back record conversion is continuing.

Mr. Jamieson

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what proportion of pre-1981 criminal records have been transferred to the national computer's Phoenix database. [2423]

Mr. Maclean

All criminal record data held on the police national computer were transferred to the Phoenix database on 22 May 1995. These included 2.8 million records originating before 1981 consisting of name and criminal record office number.
