HC Deb 04 November 1996 vol 284 c357W
Mr. Malcolm Bruce

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate, in respect of tax year 1996–97, of the number of taxpayers who will submit their tax returns to the Inland Revenue by 30 September 1997; how his estimate of this figure changed over the last 12 months; and if he will make a statement. [267]

Mr. Jack

[holding answer 31 October 1996]: The Inland Revenue's current working assumption is that between 40 per cent. and 50 per cent. of tax returns for 1996–97 will be received by 30 September 1997. This assumption has remained constant over the last 12 months.
