Mr. Ian McCartney

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many companies have introduced an asbestos control programme, following a visit from a Health and Safety Executive field inspector, during the last year for which figures are available. [1440]

Sir Paul Beresford

The information is not available in the form requested.

Mr. McCartney

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment when the public consultation on a discussion document which outlined possible adjustments to the asbestos licensing regime will be published; and if he will place submissions to the consultation in the Library. [1442]

Sir Paul Beresford

The Health and Safety Commission's discussion document on the future of the lead and asbestos regulations was published in May, and a copy placed in the Library. In accordance with its usual practice and as explained on the front cover of the discussion document, the Commission will be making responses to the document, except where consultees asked that their response should not be so disclosed, available for public scrutiny at the Health and Safety Executive's information centres in London, Bootle and Sheffield. A list of responses received has been placed in the Library of the House: copies of individual responses may be obtained through the Library.
