Letter from Richard Tilt to Mr. Tom Cox, dated 22 May 1996: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the number of mixed prisons there are currently in England and Wales. There are currently five prisons that hold both male and female prisoners on the same site. These are Brockhill prison, Durham prison, Low Newton remand centre, Risley prison and Winchester prison.
