HC Deb 16 May 1996 vol 277 cc544-5W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list the foreign-owned companies which have been granted regional selective assistance in the last five years; and if he will make a statement. [28655]

Mr. Gwilym Jones

Negotiations between the Welsh Office and applicants are confidential. However, certain information on offers of assistance of over £75,000 is published in "Labour Market Trends"—previously in the "Employment Gazette"—following the first payment of grant.

Between 1 April 1991 and 31 March 1996, 186 firms described as foreign owned at the time of the application received offers of regional selective assistance towards a total of 204 projects. These offers totalled £218 million and the projects were forecast to create or safeguard some 30,000 jobs and involved private investment of £1.8 billion.
