HC Deb 15 May 1996 vol 277 c444W
Mr. Pickthall

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what checks are made in respect of the criminal records of applicants for PSV licences. [29180]

Mr. Norris

Public service vehicle operators' licences are not granted unless traffic commissioners are satisfied that the applicant meets the requirements of good repute. The applicant must declare any relevant convictions that he or any of his employees have had in the last five years. In advance of the grant of a licence, the names of all applicants are circulated to the police and local authorities who have a statutory right to make a formal objection to a licence being granted.
