HC Deb 15 May 1996 vol 277 c475W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for Health if he will make it his policy to require his Department's regulatory bodies to disclose all relevant safety data to(a) their own advisory committees and (b) the relevant manufacturers in advance of any decision being taken about the safety of pharmaceutical products. [25809]

Mr. Malone

It is normal policy to disclose all relevant safety data available to our advisory committees and, when not restricted by confidentiality agreements, the relevant data are provided to pharmaceutical companies whose products are under consideration. If compulsory regulatory action is proposed, it is the policy of the Medicines Control Agency to provide the relevant pharmaceutical companies with a copy of the assessment reports prior to a final decision being made.
