To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how much his Department has paid towards the cost of visits abroad by members of the royal family in each of the last 10 years. [28921]

Expenditure by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office on official visits overseas by members of the royal family in each of the last 10 years is as follows:

  • 1986–87: £382,500
  • 1987–88: £386,600
  • 1988–89: £396,400
  • 1989–90: £424,000
  • 1990–91: £464,000
  • 1991–92: £620,800
  • 1992–93: £455,695
  • 1993–94: £491,845
  • 1994–95: £558,268
  • 1995–96: £405,342 (bills presented to date).
