Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many United Kingdom diplomats officially accredited to missions in foreign countries have been expelled from(a) Libya, (b) the former Soviet Union, (c) the former Czechoslovakia, (d) Bulgaria, (e) Cuba, (f) Vietnam, (g) Iran, (h) South Africa and (i) Sudan, since 3 March 1995; and on what dates and for what stated reasons. Mr. Hanley

One. The head of the British interest section at Tripoli was expelled on 24 December 1995. The stated reason was that he was

"engaging in activities which were incompatible with his diplomatic status".

Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many diplomats officially accredited to missions in London have been expelled since his answer of 18 January 1995,Official Report, column 580, and if he will indicate their nationalities. [29009]

Mr. Hanley

Two diplomats have been expelled; one from Libya, one from Iraq.
