§ Mr. RichardsThe information is given in the following table. Reliable data are not available for 1990 so 1991 data have been given. Staff employed by NHS trusts are shown in the health authority area in which the trust is situated.
plan for the strengthening of bridges required under European Union regulations (a) for each local authority in Wales and (b) for Wales; and how much is committed for 1995–96 and for 1996–97 showing the totals as a percentage of overall local authority budgets; and if he will make a statement. [28156]
§ Mr. Gwilym JonesIt is estimated that some £4.5 million will be spent on the trunk road—including M4 motorway—assessment programme. Within this total, £706,000 was expended in 1995–96 and £473,000 is estimated for 1996–97.
Local authorities are responsible for bridges on non-trunk roads. The bulk of local authority resources are not attributed to particular activities and it is for individual authorities to determine the level of resources to allocate to bridges, and other programmes, taking into account statutory responsibilities and local priorities.
