To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what has been the cost to his Department of each legal case against the Department since 23 May 1993 where the case has(a) been judged against his Department and (b) settled before court judgment; and if he will make a statement. [27559]

It is estimated that since 23 May 1993 there have been over 4,000 legal cases against the Home Office,[...] for judicial review and claims for personal injuries. No central record is kept of the outcome of these cases and it is not therefore possible to provide the information in the form requested.
