§ Mr. HayesTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the future use of British Rail's double arrow symbol. [28686]
§ Mr. WattsOn 7 May British Rail transferred the ownership of the double arrow symbol, and all common law trade marks and rights, to the ownership of the Secretary of State, who will in future license it for use in connection with the Great Britain rail network. Licences will be granted to British Rail, so that the symbol can continue to be used as its corporate logo.
The symbol will also be licensed to Railtrack and to other railway operators where it is to be used to indicate access to the national railway network—for example at stations and on most tickets and on the national railway timetable. The symbol will continue to be used as a traffic sign. Royalties will not be charged.
