HC Deb 07 May 1996 vol 277 cc1-2W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department what budgetary allocation was made in(a) 1994–95 and (b) 1995–96; what allocation has been set aside for 1996–97 for the immigration appellate authority; and is the allocation within that budget in each of those years, for special adjudicators hearing asylum appeals. [27173]

Mr. Jonathan Evans

The table shows the overall budgetary allocation for the years requested. The immigration appellate authorities do not keep a record of the allocation made specifically to special adjudicators hearing asylum appeals, and the table shows the amount allocated to all judicial costs in all areas of the appellate authorities' work.

Year Overall budgetary allocation (£) Judicial allocation (£)
1994–95 3,755,603 2,386,000
1995–96 4,793,057 2,648,762
1996–97 7,931,512 4,122,604

Mr. Alton

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department what is the actual or protected outturn of(a) immigration appeals in total, (b) substantive asylum appeals and (c) fast track asylum appeals in (i) 1994–95, (ii) 1995–96 and (iii) 1996–97. [27174]

Mr. Evans

It is not possible to provide separate figures for(b) and (c) as the immigration appellate authorities do not distinguish between these categories when recording determined appeals. I am able to provide the following information:
