HC Deb 04 March 1996 vol 273 cc42-3W
Mr. Rooney

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many applications for a jobfinder's grant have been(a) approved and (b) not approved; and what were the gross weekly wages of those approved in gradations of £10 for (i) each standard region and (ii) Great Britain. [18746]

Mr. Forth

Responsibility for the subject of the question has been delegated to the Employment Service under its chief executive. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Mike Fogden to Mr. Terry Rooney, dated 4 March 1996:

The Secretary of State has asked me to reply to your Question about the Jobfinder's Grant.

I attach a table (Table 1) showing how many Jobfinder's Grants have been applied for and have been awarded nationally and by Employment Service region since the programme was introduced on 18 April (22 May in Yorkshire and Humberside region, where a more flexible variant to the programme is being piloted) up to 2 February 1996, which is the latest date for which figures are available.

I also attach a table (Table 2) showing the latest information about the gross weekly wage level of grant recipients.

I hope this is helpful.
