HC Deb 04 March 1996 vol 273 c42W
Mr. Hall

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment when grant-maintained schools were transferred from the public sector to the private sector in respect of their treatment over capital expenditure. [18834]

Mrs. Gillan

Grant-maintained schools have always been considered to be private sector institutions.

Mr. Hall

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what undertakings she has given to grant-maintained school governors in respect of increasing the annual maintenance grant to cover the cost of any private sector loans secured by grant-maintained schools. [18835]

Mr. Robin Squire

None. Except in areas where the common funding formula is in operation, annual maintenance grant for grant-maintained schools will continue to be calculated with reference to the local management of schools scheme of the local education authority in which the school is situated. In CFF areas, AMG is derived from the standard spending assessment for education for the authority in which the schools are situated.
