HC Deb 04 June 1996 vol 278 cc391-2W
Mr. Key

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proportion of the United Kingdom's contribution to UN organisations has been used specifically for HIV-AIDS programmes for each year since 1991. [30227]

Mr. Hanley

Several UN systems agencies—including the World Health Organisation, UN Development Programme, UN Population Fund, UN Childrens' Fund, UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation, and, now, the UN AIDS programme—have, since 1991, implemented programmes that will benefit people at risk of, or affected by, HIV infection. The UK is an important contributor to all, except UNESCO. The data needed to calculate the proportion of these contributions used "specifically for HIV-AIDS programmes" are not currently available.

Mr. Key

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what proportion of the United Kingdom's contribution to the European Commission has been used for HIV-AIDS specific activities for each year since 1991. [30226]

Mr. Hanley

Several directorates-general within the EC—including I, V, VIII and XII—have, since 1991, used funds with the specific intention of benefiting people at risk of, or affected by, HIV infection. The data needed to calculate the proportion of the UK's contribution used for these activities are not currently available.
