To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department how many complaints of overcharging on the part of solicitors were received from the public and directed to the taxation master in the years 1995, 1994, 1993 and 1992; and what proportion of them resulted in a reduction of the original fees charged. The question concerns a specific operational matter on which the chief executive of the Court Service is best placed to provide an answer and I have accordingly asked him to reply direct.

I am unable to provide the information because no details are kept of the reasons given for requesting taxation of solicitors' charges.
