HC Deb 24 July 1996 vol 282 c344W
Mr. Meacher

To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department what proportion of households in York had one or more judgments in respect of debt made against them at York country court in each of the last five years. [39566]

Mr. Streeter

The question concerns a specific operational matter on which the chief executive of the Court Service is best placed to provide an answer and I have accordingly asked him to reply direct.

Letter from M. D. Huebner to Mr. Michael Meacher, dated 24 July 1996: The Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department, has asked me to reply to your Question about debt judgments at York County Court. These figures are not held centrally and could only be obtained at a disproportionate cost.

Mr. Streeter

The question concerns a specific operational matter on which the chief executive of the Court Service is best placed to provide an answer and I have accordingly asked him to reply direct.

Letter from M. D. Huebner to Mr. Michael Meacher, dated 24 July 1996: The Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department, has asked me to reply to your Question about judgments against people resident in York and at York County Court. It is not possible to give a figure for debt judgments but the total number of judgements made at York County Court in the last five years is:

  • 1991: 22,161
  • 1992: 19,500
  • 1993: 19,697
  • 1994: 10,768
  • 1995: 5,638
Figures about where the people concerned live are not held centrally and could also only be obtained at disproportionate cost.
