To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what proposals he has to establish a formal approval process for individual port waste management plans; if he will examine the need for additional resources for the Marine Safety Agency to carry out an approval process; and if he will make a statement. Guidelines issued by the Marine Safety Agency require local consultation between ports and their regular users in the preparation of port waste management plans. We are currently consulting on proposed primary legislation which would enable the MSA to ensure that there is compliance with these guidelines.
