HC Deb 24 July 1996 vol 282 c534W
Mr. Wilkinson

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the aggregate of the United Kingdom's net contribution to the European Union for the past four years; what average annual percentage increase this represents; what is the estimated aggregate net British contribution for the next four years; and what is his estimate of the average annual percentage increase for this period. [37677]

Mrs. Angela Knight

The UK's net contribution over the four years from 1992–93 to 1995–96 amounted to nearly £10 billion, excluding private sector receipts of perhaps £1 billion or more. Estimates covering the whole of the next four-year period are not yet available. Percentage variations fluctuate enormously from year to year depending both on which years are chosen and on the method of calculation.
