HC Deb 23 July 1996 vol 282 c132W
Mr. Robert Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what arrangements exist and what proposals he has to encourage contemporary artists through displays of paintings and sculpture in Government-owned buildings. [38424]

Mr. Sproat

The Government art collection, with guidance from its advisory committee, buys and commissions paintings and sculpture by contemporary British artists for display in Government buildings at home and abroad. The GAC occasionally supplements its own holdings by borrowing contemporary works from other collections for display in particular locations.
