To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the (i) speeches, (ii) reports and (iii) other statements made by the Director General of Electricity Supply in relation to his statutory duties concerning the environment. [36626]

Under section 3(3) of the Electricity Act 1989 the Director General of Electricity Supply has a dutyto promote efficiency and economy on the part of persons authorised by licences to supply or transmit electricity and the efficient use of electricity supplied to consumers". He also has a duty to take account, when exercising all the functions in section 3(3) of the Act the effect on the physical environment of activities connected with the generation, transmission or supply of electricity". The implementation of those duties is a matter for the Director General of Electricity Supply.
