To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many of the mobile telephones which have been supplied to his Department in each of the last eight years have been cloned; and on what dates. [11011]

I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave to the hon. Member for Cunninghame, South (Mr. Donohoe) on 7 December 1995,Official Report, column 340. The overall incidence of cloning of phones issued to the diplomatic wing is listed:

  • 1988–1993 = none
  • 1994 October = 2 phones
  • 1995 January = 1 phone
  • 1995 February = 1 phone
  • 1995 March = 4 phones
  • 1995 April = 1 phone
  • 1995 May = 1 phone
  • 1995 June = 2 phones
  • 1995 July to present = none

No mobile phones used by the aid wing have been cloned.
