To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many additional inmate places will be available for use by the end of 1996 at HMP Holloway. [8446]

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the temporary Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from A. J. Butler to Mr. Martin Redmond, dated 17 January 1996: The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question asking how many additional inmate places will be available for use by the end of 1996 at Holloway prison. There are no additional inmate places planned for Holloway prison in 1996.

The mother and baby unit at Holloway prison has not been closed and there are no plans to close it.
