§ Mr. MorganTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he has had with GP fundholders and hospitals in south Wales concerning the appropriate level of remuneration required to cover additional teaching overheads by(a) the University hospital of Wales and (b) other hospitals in which there is teaching activity for the medical schools; and if he will make a statement. [7584]
§ Mr. HagueThe report of the advisory group on the service increment for teaching, SIFT, which funds the costs to the NHS of supporting the teaching of medical undergraduates, was circulated for comment to chief executives of NHS trusts and family health service authorities in Wales in June 1995. Following acceptance of the report's recommendations for the future of SIFT, guidance was issued in December to assist NHS trusts who support undergraduate medical teaching in identifying the costs of doing so, over and above the costs of patient care.
