HC Deb 09 January 1996 vol 269 cc3-4W
Mr. Dunn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment which London boroughs have not yet submitted returns on staffing levels. [7937]

Sir Paul Beresford

The annual joint staffing watch survey collects information on staffing levels in local authorities in June of each year. The following authorities have not made returns in respect of June 1995 staff numbers:

  • Bexley
  • Brent
  • Camden
  • Hackney
  • Hammersmith and Fulham
  • Haringey
  • Havering
  • Hillingdon
  • Southwark
  • Tower Hamlets.

Mr. Dunn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many full-time equivalent employees there are(a) in total and (b) per head of population in the service of each London borough. [7940]

Sir Paul Beresford

The available information is as follows. The levels of employment in individual authorities are not directly comparable because of variations in, for example, population structure and social characteristics, the extent of the use of private firms and contractors and the level of work undertaken for other authorities and public bodies on an agency basis.
