To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what consideration he has given to providing specific grants to maintaining a public transport service where the positive environmental impact of that service cannot be readily measured in terms of financial costs or prices; and if he will make a statement. Mr. Norris

Those directly responsible for providing public transport services are best placed to take into account environmental and other impacts in considering the funding of particular services, in the light of the resources available to them, including Government grant. I have no plans to establish a specific grant for this purpose.
