HC Deb 09 January 1996 vol 269 c44W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the use of video cameras on buses to catch those who block bus lanes. [7678]

Mr. Norris

The Traffic Director for London is co-ordinating a pilot study on the A1 in Haringey and Islington to test the potential effectiveness of camera technology for enforcing bus lanes. The project has the support of the Home Office and Transport Ministers and the Metropolitan police and is being undertaken in partnership with industry. Public trials began in December and warning letters will be issued to drivers who are identified as contravening bus lane traffic orders. The traffic director will be reporting the results of the study to Ministers later this year.
