Mr. Kynoch

The available information relates to all classes of proposal to change the valuation list made to assessors and subsequent appeals. Information on proposals/appeals in relation to the valuation list in force at 1 April 1993 is available only for regions. Information on proposals/appeals in relation to the list after 1 April 1993 is available only for valuation board areas. The latest available information, giving the position up to September 1996, is given in the tables.

1 Appeals and complaints lodged with assessors departments in relation to the 1995 revaluation.
2 The number of properties against which there are appeals. This is less than the number of appeals because there are, in some cases more than one appeal in relation to a property. For example, both the owner and the tenant of a property may appeal.

Mr. Kynoch

Information is not available on the number of households by council tax band. The table shows the latest available information—for October 1996—on the number of dwellings on the valuation list in each local authority area by council tax band.

Mr. Kynoch

The valuation for council tax and electoral registration grant-aided expenditure assessments are each distributed in proportion to the number of dwellings valued for council tax. The relevant figures for each local authority for 1996–97 are shown in the table.
