HC Deb 04 December 1996 vol 286 c694W
25. Mr. Eric Clarke

To ask the President of he Board of Trade what estimate he has made of oil, gas and coal reserves in the United Kingdom. [5805]

Mr. Page

Remaining reserves in present discoveries of oil on the UK continental shelf at the end of 1995 are estimated to be up to 1,890 million tonnes. For gas the estimate is 1,915 billion cu m. Allowing for the full potential from as yet undrilled structures could raise this to 6,714 million tonnes of oil and 3,665 billion cu m of gas.

For coal the remaining reserves at existing mines were estimated to be around 1 billion tonnes at the end of 1994.
